Environmental and energy efficient solutions

As our name implies, we are passionate about environmentally friendly and energy efficient solutions!

We recognise the increasing importance and need to safeguard our environment and are fully committed to continual improvement of environmental performance and the prevention of pollution.

We comply with the Environmental Protection Act 1990 as well as all relevant environmental legislation and assist our clients in maintaining and selecting efficient and effective equipment.

Throughout design, manufacture, installation and service and maintenance, we aim to monitor and minimise the impact of these activities on the environment.  We will actively encourage our suppliers, contractors, subcontractors, and all of our employees to participate in our efforts to reduce the environmental impact of our day-to-day operations.

Our field service engineers are fully trained and certified to reclaim and recharge refrigerant into cooling systems when required.  We comply fully with the F-Gas Regulation, and leak test systems in accordance to them.

Pioneering the use of green gases

We are proud to be continually pushing the possibilities and bringing innovation to our industry through our bespoke designs and the promotion of green gases.

Mycom Low Temperature Plant

UK First : Low ammonia charge installation

Back in 2011 we installed the UK’s first Mycom air-cooled low ammonia charge chiller (R717).  This has a variable speed drive for the compressor and its condenser fans to obtain even greater operational efficiencies.  Read how it’s still performing 10 years on!

CO2 Cooling Installation

UK First : Achieving Carbon Neutral (Case Study)

More recently we’ve contributed to our customer in Milton Keynes becoming the first UK cooked sliced meat manufacturing site to be certified Carbon Neutral by December 2020, as part of their greater mission to be a Net Zero business by 2040.   Read more.

Greencold towable CO2 refrigerated trailer

UK First : Innovative CO2 powered refrigerated trailer

We achieved another first with the UK’s first CO2 powered towable refrigerated trailer which we custom-build as well as rent, following a partnership with Japanese OEM Panasonic.

Industrial Refrigeration Water Chiller

CO2 Chillers & Condensers

Future proof your plant with our compact footprint CO2 glycol and water chillers – self contained and available with direct expansion condensing units for chilling and freezing.

CO2 (Carbon Dioxide)

CO2 has a low GWP of 1, and with lower viscosity means smaller footprint, higher efficiency and up to 20% savings on running costs.  Read more about why you should choose CO2

NH3 (Ammonia)

Ammonia refrigerant is not covered by the EU F-Gas Regulation, and as a natural refrigerant has zero GWP and zero ODP. Compared to an HFC system it has better COP and hence lower electrical running costs.

We’ll help you on your Pathway to Net Zero

The London-based Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) has published a new report in 2021 – Pathway to Net-Zero: Cooling Product List, which we are proud to have contributed to.

This report offers a first-of-its-kind look at energy-efficient natural refrigerant-based HVAC&R products from around the world for all applications.   It supports the “Climate Action Pathway for Net-Zero Cooling” initiative launched in 2020 by the the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) High Level Champions.    You’ll also find us listed in their cooling product list directory.

“The development and expansion of net-zero cooling is a critical part of our Race to Zero emissions.  I welcome the EIA cooling product list as an important contribution to accelerating the race.”

Our Environmental Attitude Towards CO2

Greencold are one of the leaders in the proactive marketing of environmentally cooling and heating solutions using ammonia (we are members of the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration) including more recently systems utilising low toxicity and non-flammable refrigerants such as CO2 (R744).

As pioneers in CO2 technology, Greencold are also an active partner, sponsor and contributor to R744.com.  This is an internationally recognised online portal that has evolved into the leading global platform for promoting CO2 as a refrigerant.  With global coverage and an increasing number of partners and readers, including research institutes, we are actively involved in the development of this collaborative platform.

You can also read more in our Environmental Policy where you can also read the Accelerate Europe article “How to build an efficient coldroom“, to which we contributed.
